2012 Art Summary

I've been trying to get back into drawing before working on finals, including a doodle page that I'll dump later when I stop. So I did this in the meantime, figuring it'd be interesting.

January: Not a lot happened in January. I was getting more into deviantArt and more specifically entering Child's Play. I also hit 10,000 page views!

February: I'm sure I still drew in February, but mostly doodles. This pic just shows that I stopped using vectors and tried out keeping my lines clean with the simple pen tool. I was also playing with styles a little, but nothing drastic.

March: Pewdiepie happened in March, giving me my #1 viewed deviation (unfortunately) being this pile of crap. I was working with adding backgrounds to things and some gradient effects, but nothing really came of it.

April: April was dedicated to banging out Round two of Child's Play. I used the pen tool as lineart instead, but kept things not-detailed and ugly.

May: Quite a bit happened in May. I started to enter Aurora OCT. I worked on soft shading and adding different kinds of colors into shading. Poses were still real awkward, and why do people need hands anyways. Anyways, lots of artsy practice.

June: I decided to have an art table at a nearby anime convention, so my style went in that direction. I soft-shaded and used bright colors with some filter effects for backgrounds. Characters were still front and center for the most part, but I drew more frequently and started big projects.

July: Holy shit, July. The convention took place in July and I drew morning to night nearly every day. More drawing with soft-shading but also practiced some perspective in pictures. Lots of art was chibis for selling, but hey, I was coloring a metric fuckton.

August: Things slowed back down in August. The con was over, Summer was ending, and more OCT related things jumped into my head. I did two full reference sheets, one was completely handwritten and put me off from drawing for a while. I gave myself a reason to re-do an old character reference sheet (Quedar, shown) and add more information into it.
More importantly, I got sick of the anime style and tried something a bit more sharp.
Month was spent with character creation and a slightly updated style, dropping the soft-shading.

September: Oh boy, September was a clusterfuck. Preparing to travel overseas for school left me out of the house as much as possible to catch up on the life I wouldn't have for three months. The few nights before departing I drew this, nearly two in the morning, and just let the pen flow. My style just went whichever way it damned pleased, and I liked it.

October: October hit and I was still drawing, mainly an audition for the Switch OCT which original deadline was October. Much adjusting and vacations later, things here started to fustercluck, and some emotions got thrown into this piece precisely. More so, I let myself draw freely again in a completely new style, and watercoloring.

November: I literally didn't think I'd have something for November, but there was that one foggy day a month and a half ago in-between long class excursions I picked up the tablet pen and went at it. I drew in my notes at class and took inspiration from other artists, as well as from October's image. I played with my favorite artist's style and adapted a few new things into it, also practicing lineart techniques.

December: Well hi there. December has been a rollercoaster, but things are winding down. Only four days until I'm back home, and I got a few things doodled out. My school notes are filled with everything but notes, and two days ago after my papers were completed, I couldn't stop myself from completing the Switch meme I'd been eyeing. This first panel literally sparked me into drawing for three days now, though I have tests tomorrow, so maybe it's a bad thing.

Draw in class, kids. It does beautiful things.
